Pointing and Command Gestures for Augmented Reality

چکیده
Wearable computing and Augmented Reality applications call for less obtrusive and more intuitive human computer interfaces than keyboards and mice. One way to realize such interfaces is using gestures, e.g., for pointing in order to replace the mouse. The less obtrusive way of gesture recognition is to use computer vision based methods. In this paper we present a computer vision-based gesture interface that is part of an Augmented Reality system. It can recognize a 3D pointing gesture, a click gesture, and five static command gestures. An optimized lookup-table based color segmentation and a fast gesture recognition method are presented that enable for real-time performance (25Hz) on a standard PC.

متن کاملA Study on the Manipulation of 2D Objects in a Projection–Based Augmented Reality Environment
Are the object manipulation techniques traditionally used in head–mounted displays (HMDs) applicable to augmented reality based projection systems? This paper examines the differences between HMD– and projector/camera– based AR interfaces in the light of a manipulation task involving documents and applications projected on common office surfaces such as tables, walls, cabinets, and floor. We re...
متن کاملHand Data Glove: A Wearable Real-Time Device for Human- Computer Interaction
In this paper, a real-time Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) based on the hand data glove and K-NN classifier for gesture recognition is proposed. HCI is moving more and more natural and intuitive way to be used. One of the important parts of our body is our hand which is most frequently used for the Interaction in Digital Environment and thus complexity and flexibility of motion of hands are th...
متن کاملThe Use of Dense Stereo Range Data in Augmented Reality
This paper describes an augmented reality system that incorporates a real-time dense stereo vision system. Analysis of range and intensity data is used to perform two functions: 1) 3D detection and tracking of the user’s fingertip or a pen to provide natural 3D pointing gestures, and 2) computation of the 3D position and orientation of the user’s viewpoint without the need for fiducial marks ca...

The Tinmith-Hand user interface uses: ! Tracking of the head and hands to provide 3D cursors (fig 2) ! Direct manipulation and image plane techniques for the manipulation of 3D objects close up or far away ! Custom pinch gloves (fig 2,3) that are used to control a new type of menuing system ! Each menu item is mapped to a unique finger on the gloves, and the user traverses the menu using only s...
